MEMO
to: All members of the office staff
from: department manager
Subject: Support or donation for charities and voluntary groups
Our company is proud of its charitable links. We have a long relationship with the International Red Crossband Red Crescent organisation and we have allowed these organisations to make collections within our offices. These are the only organisationsthat we allow to do this and any donations made by staff are entirely voluntary. It has come to our attention that there are people visitting some of our branches and collecting money from our staff. Unfortunately these people are not genuine collectors and the money is not going to for example the International Red Cross. If anyone approaches you and ask for money you should ensure that this is an authorised collector berore you make any donation. If you are not sure whether the identification card is correct please contactthe branch security officer immediately. We hope to catch anyone who collects illegally.

Hi everybody,
in the hope that not only Alexandra, but also the other members of our former group read this entry today a joke again:

Smacking instructions

After God created Adam and Eve, he said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply."
Adam looked puzzled. "How do we do that?"
God replied, "You can start by giving Eve a smack on the lips." Adam still looked confused, so God told him how to go about it. Adam came back and reported that the smack on the lips was successful.
"Now what do we do?" asked Adam.
God said, "It might help if you give her a tender caress." He then told Adam what to do, after which he returned with a smile on his face.
"I think she liked that. What's next?" asked Adam.
"Now you have to unite and be as one," replied God. He saw that Adam was unsure of what to do, so he gave him detailed instructions and sent him back to Eve.
Adam quickly returned with a disappointed look on his face and asked God, "What exactly is a headache?"

I didn't know that Adam and Eve already had such problems and I have thought that headaches and migraine have come in fashion only in recent decades... ;-)
So, in the hope for reply in the next days
best regards
Wolfgang

Hi all,
I think it's time for a joke again. In the last weeks I was abroad (South Tirol, Austria, France and Luxembourg) and so I couldn't write little stories, jokes or more or less important information. The following "story" I found in OWAD:

" ....In the beginning God created heaven and the earth, but he was quickly sued for failing to submit an environmental impact report. He was given temporary permission for the project, but was then delayed by an order to stop the earthly part. At the commission hearing, God was asked why he began the earth project in the first place. God said, "I just like being creative."

God then said, "Let there be light." The officials demanded to know how the light would be made and if it would affect any species of animals? God said, "The light will come from a big ball of fire. And by the way, the animals don't get created until after the light."

Feeling that God was being a little cheeky, the officials then said he could go ahead with the light as long as he agreed to keep if off half the time in order to save energy. God agreed and said he would call the light "Day" and the darkness "Night." One of the officials brusquely said, "We don't care what you call it."

God then said, "Let the earth bring forth green herb and such as many seed." The officials pointed out that under no circumstances could he use gene-modified seed.

Frustrated but not ready to give up, God said, "Let waters bring forth creeping creatures having life; and the fowl that may fly over the earth." The officials told him that he would first have to prove that all of the animals are free of BSE. When God pointed out that BSE only affected cows, the officials told him to sit down and be quiet.

God then said he wanted to complete the project in six days and then take a day off. The officials informed him it would take at least three months to review the application. After that, there would be a public hearing provided Adam and Eve could find the time to attend. At this point, God created hell....."

In my meaning times have changed but not the officials' behaviour..... (for example the mayor's behaviour of the town of Duisburg after the catastrophe at the end of the Love Parade ....

Until the next entry best regards
Wolfgang

Hello Marco, Wolfgang, Henry, Alfred and Michael,

Last week I cleared my memory stick and I found our pictures from Leipzig and Nordhausen, and I thought of our funny ‘schooltime’. What do you think about a second class reunion?
It would be nice, if you write a brief message (forum or e-mail), whether you have interest in a meeting.

Best regards!
Alexandra

PS: Marco, thank you very much for your congratulations.

This is an open call to all ESL trainers. I am an ESL instructor in California. I have been compiling a list of ESL resources for my students and would appreciate any suggestions for internet based ESL resource sites you have deemed worthwhile. My website is called www.englishlearns.com If you would like to submit a site for listing in my ESL resources please contact me at esljkc@gmail.com and my students and I would be very grateful. Thanks again, John Campbell.

Hello everybody,
it's been a long time that we said good bye - on 6th April in the town of Nordhausen. Meanwhile six months have passed and the members of our group have gone apart. A few of them are in close contact and write an email from time to time. Now - and this is our problem or better our question - we are interested in an "English table". It would be nice if Torsten or the other trainers could help us and maybe you have a good ideas, how we can solve this problem?

The website "English-test.net" is o.k., but we'd like to speak with native speakers once a week or biweekly. We'd like to improve our skills and so we are reading or/and listening/watching English novels, newspapers, radio- and TV-programs, movies etc. about an hour a day. But what we have to force ourself to speaking and to communicate. I hope you all understand our wishes and maybe you can help us.
It would be nice if this message could reach as many users of this forum as possible. We'd like to ask you to assist us ......
So, that's all for now. Best regards
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang, your idea is great. The question is what type of incentives we can offer to native speakers to get them to come to Nordhausen. Since the official website of Nordhausen is available in German only it is a challenge to make native speakers even aware of the town.

So apart from paying them money, what exactly can you offer to native speakers in return for their time? Here are some ideas:
- you can organize a cooking/baking event
- you can help them get teaching jobs with companies in your region
- you can take them on a tour around your area

Hi Norma, please check the meaning of the term 'personnel manager'. A personnel manager is somebody who is in charge of a company's personal. You can also call this person an HR manager.

Dear all,

I have read the posts from Wolfgang and Torsten about to establish a “English Round Table” (ERT) in Nordhausen.
For some time Wolfgang and I looking for ways to improve our English language skills and so we have the idea to found a ERT in Nordhausen.
And now we search other English speakers and learners with same interest about the English language. It is not important to speak perfect English language but rather together to improve our language skills. I would be happy if we could start our project in the new year.
My idea is that the ERT should provide the opportunity to practice and improve our English language skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It would be nice if we had contact with a native speaker so that we don’t speak the German language. So we could meet us twice in month at different locations.

Wolfgang, your idea to organize an "English joking table" is brillant! I have for you discovered a nice joke:

Santa's Gender

Christmas has to be a warm, well organised, caring, considerate, social occasion. So, it's unlikely that a man could take responsibility for making it happen.

For starters, the vast majority of men don't even think about Christmas until Christmas Eve. And when they do eventually rush into the high street at the latest possible moment, they seem genuinely surprised to discover that the only options remaining on the shelves are cheap perfume and lingerie suitable for high class tarts.

Let's face it, Santa Claus must be a woman. If Santa was a man, all there would be under the Christmas tree are high tech' toys .... still in the original wrappings, of course.

Another flaw in the 'he-Santa' argument is his apparent ability to arrive promptly every Christmas Eve. If Santa was a man, he could be relied upon to have transportation problems, get lost in all the snow and clouds and flatly refuse to ask anyone for directions.

There are lots of other reasons why Santa can't be a man:

Men have no idea about packing bags.
Men would rather be dead than wear red velvet.
Men have no interest in stockings, unless they are being worn by an attractive female.
But, the real show-stopper is, most men simply can't do commitment.

I’m looking forward to read posts from like-minded people.

With Christmas greetings and all good wishes for the New Year.
Alexandra
