Face-to-face communication vs letters, e-mail, or telephone calls #1 (permalink) Fri Jan 08, 2010 12:13 pm   Face-to-face communication vs letters, e-mail, or telephone calls

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-mail, or telephone calls. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Communication

Many people nowadays, prefer to use letters, emails, or telephone calls as a way of communicating with others. Others, still are using the old ways of communicating with each others, as a face to face communication. In my view, I prefer to use face to face communication at certain times to benefit from its following advantages.

First, when people communicate face to face especially in businesses, the worker could ensure that he understands the tasks that his manager asks him to do. This is because; the worker could ask as much questions as he wants to the manager and the manager could define the task more to the worker. Second, by communicating to people face to face instead of using the electronic mails would be more efficient, as there is a risk that the letter or mail may not be received due to technical issues or problems.

Moreover, it would be expensive to communicate with others on the e-mails, letters or telephone calls, as Internet and computer terminals should be purchased to send e-mails and a mobile or a telephone land line must be purchased to call others. Last but not the least, e-mails and letters might take a long time for the other person to receive and sometimes calling a person wouldn’t be an easy method, as the person might not be free to talk in the time that you are calling. Whereas when face to face communication method is used it wouldn’t take a lot of time, as the person could make an appointment before sometime to talk to his friend, manager etc…

In conclusion, using methods other than face to face communication, such as letters might not be always practical and sophisticated. Therefore, for a person to make an efficient and an effective communication, a face to face method must be used for its above advantages.

Your welcome Emilly, but unfortunately I am not skillful enough to grade your essay. I just can tell you that I like the way of your thinking. You seem to have lots of ideas for writing.

Better than average Emilly. Don't forget to use a comma when necessary. 8/10
