DO ADVERTISEMENTS SELL?
Are we victims of false advertising? Give examples. Should there be more control of the content of some adverts? (ex. nudity, using children, etc.) Do you think there should be a T.V. channel for adverts and the others be uninterrupted? Why?
We live nowadays in a world where all runs around the money. The enterprises by means of the advertisements they try to increase their sales in order to get better profits. A good way is transmitting nice and expensive advertisements in the media which capture the attention of the audience and to lead them to buy their products. We can see in these advertisements many celebrities, beautiful women, handsome men, all of them telling us that the products they announce are the best.
From my point of view I do not think that they are deceiving us, we have to know that the main task of the advertising is to sell and we have to be conscious of their intentions. I know perfectly that although I buy a determined watch, or I use an expensive perfume or I buy a sport car, I never will be like Brad Pitt. In regard to the question whether we are victims of false advertising, I do not think so for above mentioned reasons.
It is true that many advertisements depict women almost naked and they are being transmitted when children are watching TV. Therefore I think the government should have more control and they have to avoid transmitting these kinds of advertisements during children viewing hours.
The advertising producers make the advertisements according the product that they will advise, for instance if the product is an expensive car they will show us a gentleman accompanied by a beautiful woman, or if the product is a nappy they will show us babies smiling using this nappy. They know perfectly whom is aimed the product that they want to sell.
I do not mind if there are some advertisements, but not many, when the channel is private because they are a source of income, but I do not like when the channel is public and I think that they should remove them because we already pay for the TV.
To sum up, the advertisements are a great help for business and I think that they are necessary in this consumer society in which we are living now, but the channels of TV must control when they transmit them and the amount of advertisements that they transmit every day.
