Hello everybody!

a) I couldn't understand the word "scences" in : The moment the lights went out, there were scences of panic. Should it be "scenes"?

b) And is there a big difference between "preferment" and "promotion"? Can we choose "preferment" in: As she had made such an impression on her employers, she was soon offered ...., instead of "promotion"?

Many thanks in advance.

A-- Yes.
B-- No. But 'promotion' is a higher-level job generally; 'preferment' generally alludes to a religious position or official appointment.
