I have a basic grammatical doubt. When we use 'like' in a sentence as in the above case which is between 2 different subjects(ecology & economics), then the later part of the sentence defines ecology or economics?

The subject of the sentence is ecology. the parenthetic statement (enclosed in commas) merely highlights ecology's similarity with eco.

If ecology is the subject, then the answer should be D i.e nutrients but the answer is given as A i.e commodities. Please help.
