1-The customer has been able send sms today.
2-The customer send sms today .

Instead of saying "sent a message via SMS", can we say "texted me"?

I don't know, to be honest. I don't have a cellular phone and I am unfamiliar with the service. I do know that 'SMS' is a service and not a message.
