Can I say, "He lost the ability to speak because something has happened to his vocal chords?" ... Yes.

You probably mean 'speech' not 'speach'?

If someone has lost his ability to "Talk" you could say "He has lost his speech"

But Sandy had written Speach - could he not also have meant "Speak"
as - "Lost his ability to "Speak" seems more logical??? - IYDMMSS!!

Again just the opinion of an aging overweight buffoon.

Hi Sandy,

I know what you mean. There is a German term for it -- Sprechapparat. It describes the system you use to produce sounds. I don't know if there is an equivalent in English but I'm sure Alan, Jamie or Bill will tell us.

Many thanks for brining it up.
