Hire or rent?

Hello!

I have never thought about that, but yesterday someone posed me that question: Do we hire a film or rent a film. how do you call the places yo go to do that? i couldn't find a proper translation.

We go to video rental shops. Hire generally has to do with service personnel or contracted rental.

Hi Vanesa,

You can hire a car for a short period or a piece of expensive machinery that you wouldn't want to buy and will only use once as for example a carpet cleaner or hedgecutter.
