This is a trick question. The answer depends on whether "fish" means one animal or a genus of that animal.

The plural of "fish" as an individual animal is "fish".

The plural "fishes" means types of fish.

I think the point is, and the results so far show it, that 'fish' is the common plural in use. 'Fishes' does have a limited use in ichthyological contexts, but not much beyond that.
