Hi there,

Have a look at this thread (Brad Pit speaks like an Irish Gypsy) and you'll see that words don't only split hairs but also opinion. It may be OK to call a person of African origin 'black' in some countries whereas you could get sued in others. The term gypsy may be commonly used for travelers in some places but will raise a few eyebrows in others. When visiting Canada last year I felt that I insulted a waitress when asking her "where are the toilets?" And would the waitress be pleased to be called just that, a 'waitress'?

How politically correct do you need to be?

PC is far too overdone these days.

It is surely sufficient to be able recognise the insensitivity in your words by the reaction of others. Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way.

We need to be civil to one another, and to be concious of others feelings.

Also, LOL, it is insensitive to point out the threads that you are referring to.
Surely the moderators are attentive and diplomatic enough to nip this in the bud.

Kitos.

Hi Kitos,

Well I do have faith in Torsten and the other lads not to nip benign cross-referencing in the bud :)

As far as I can tell from you're accent, you're probably from somewhere close enough to Newcastle. While I'm sure that geordie is a generic term for a Tynesider, scally is that wee bit more derogatory in't it marra?
