Hi Teachers,

Please check my answers:

When the people saw that Captain James was not there, they got into the ship.

1)When the people saw that Captain James was not there --> subordinate clause (Adverb clause).
They got into the ship --> main clause.

2) In this sentence the subordinate clause itself contains one main clause and one subordinate clause.
the people saw --> main clause.
that Captain James was not there --> subordinate clause (Noun clause).

I am correct, am I not?

Thank you Teachers
