I have to correct the following composition. And I want you to tell me if the correction is right.

Original composition.

I and my family went in the Skiatho last summer. We leaved for ten day. We always went in the beach for swimming every morning. We usually ate lunch. The evening we went midle the Skiathou. We went in a castle.

My version

My family and I went to Skiathos last summer. We went there (or stayed there) for ten days. Every morning we used to go for swimming on the beach. We usually had lunch at 2pm. In the evening we used to go in the centre of Skiathos. We also visited a castle.

Is my correction correct? Thanks in advance.

All right, I think you are right, thanks for your answer. I was worried especially about the used to sentences.

Some corrections:

Every morning we would go swimming at the beach.

In the evening we would go to the center of Skiathos / central Skiathos.

You wouldn't use "used to" because it represents a repeated action in the past. As you're writing about a single event that lasted only ten days, the simple past is better. However, the modal "would" (see my examples above) also works here.

Bad news :) The second answer was a bit late. I had to give back the composition corrected today. So is used to wrong? Or they can both be used? Because I' ve already given it back....

In the context of the story, "used to" doesn't work so well, but as individual sentences, you used them correctly.

So I know it now for the future corrections. Every time you want to say that you did something for a couple of days, you use would (which is similar to used to and to past simple). Thank you again.

As a modal, "would" can be used the same as "used to." When referring to something you did repeatedly in the past, these two modals convey that meaning.

Generally, for something you did only once in the past, the simple past tense works.
