'I had been waiting for over three hours'. Is waiting a gerund?

'I spend my time in reading and writing'. What is the gerund and preposition?

All attempts having failed, we abandoned work for the day'. Analyze the sentence and give what is noun/pronoun/verb etc.

What is the difference between interrogative pronouns and interrogative adjectives? Can you give examples of both?

What is the difference between writing in past tense and using a past participle? What is the definition of participle?

1)No it is not a gerund, it is simple the present participle (verb + ing). The tense is past perfect progressive.
2) both reading and writing are gerunds. As far as I am concerned the sentence is "I spend my time reading and writing" it has no preposition
