A good teacher sets difficult task to the students #1 (permalink) Tue Feb 16, 2010 16:54 pm   A good teacher sets difficult task to the students

Hi! This is my first essay in this forum . So I have selected one of the topics already discussed in this forum: "A good teacher sets difficult task to the students"
I had written this essay in 30 minutes on a paper before I posted this on this forum. It contains 505 words.
But the problem is that in IELTS we may get just 15 -20 minutes to write 250-300 words. More words more time.
I would request you to please guide me on how can we define and restrict our essay within the said limits.
My essay as below:
"A good teacher sets difficult task to the students"

I appreciate the idea of good teachers, where they set weekly assignments with difficult task for the students, and I strongly agree to this system.
In fact this is my personal observation that such methods work out quiet efficiently.
To quote an example for this, I would illustrate a story of my cousin’s Son.
He is studying in standard 5th. His teacher once gave the class an assignment to find out information about Amphibians. There was not much information about amphibians in his syllabus, except for a story about a frog.
He wondered about how he could get information, discussed with few of his classmates, checked with his parents and family members. His brother from the same school asked him to go to the School Library. Though there was a big library in the school he had never visited it quite often, except for looking out for story books. But post his visit to the library he was quite astonished to have a galore of books on Amphibians. They carried loads of information to various types, species and so on. His classmates had also accompanied him to the library. Since there was a lot of information available and a weeks time only they decided to work together to collect the information. They started pulling notes, photocopies of the images, and few made sketches. They utilized there recess time, free lectures and after school hours to browse through the books. Finally they all went back to their houses to compile the information and create their own presentations on the said topic.
Though each one had the almost the same information but still had quiet independent ways of expression. On the day of the final presentation they all were ready and confident about their presentations. Even the teacher appreciated their works and praised them for efforts taken.
Moral of the story, these assignments given by the teachers though are difficult task for them, but it helps them in self-development and motivates them to be able to overcome real difficult task of the life ahead.
It helps them explore new options, guides them with the importance of reading, find more information and gain knowledge.
But each of the Class students may not be able to cope up with this difficult task. So it is also very important for the teachers and parents to ensure that proper guidance is available to the students to be able to achieve such task. A failure to do so may lead to de motivation, clueless to a way forward may lead to dis- interest of the students and cause constant failures. Also every effort taken by the students to achieve a goal whether up-to mark or not needs to acknowledged and appreciated to motivate them. The teacher needs to guide them, highlight their mistakes and show ways to improve and perform better.
To conclude, I would once again stress to the point that “Good teachers should set difficult task for the students” to encourage self development and improve their analytical and creative skills.

Thanks for your valuable time and inputs.

Regards,
KP
