How popular are Louvre windows in the US? #1 (permalink) Wed Feb 17, 2010 21:43 pm   How popular are Louvre windows in the US?

Hi, when I google the term "Louvre window" it seems that only Australian and British sites show up. Does this mean that louvre windows are not very popular in the US? Also, googling the term 'louver window system' only produces about 4 results while 'louvre window system' generate thousands. Does this mean that the spelling 'louvre' is not very popular either?

Many thanks,
Torsten

In the UK(and I think the US) you wouldn't say Louvre - you would only say Louvered

Louvre (as in Paris) is a continental term I think....?

Yeah in the US it's louvered as well. Torsten, a louver is the mechanism whereas louvered (adj) refers to a type of window fitted with a louver.

Most air conditioning vents in cars are also louvered. And all of those little flps that open and close to control airflow are louvers. Granted, we usually just call those vents because all of them are generally louvered.

I got about 104,000 hits for "louvered windows". Those windows are only popular on people's back porches.
