I've seen that vietnamist are the most active members. I think they are leading the ranking, maybe! _________________ Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.

Good morning Torsten. I find that your reply amazes me.
Why do American students come to an English site to learn English?
Surely their standards of education cannot be that poor.

Hi Bill,
Here are the countries our users have accessed our site from in the past month: 1. United States 2. India 3. United Kingdom 4. Canada 5. Philippines 6. Australia 7. Germany 8. Spain 9. Thailand 10. France
I don't think that those users who access the site from the US, the UK, Canada and Australia are native speakers of English. In most cases, those are young Asians whose parents sent them to English speaking countries where they are applying for admission to universities and colleges. Many of them realize only after they arrive in the US that they need to improve their English and since they don't have any contacts with native speakers they turn to the internet and google phrases like 'learn English online', etc. That's how they find out site.
Almost exactly 3 years ago we had the following discussion: Web site demographics (traffic origin)

To Torsten
I am actually living in Adelaide, Australia. I came here to learn and experience English language and after 10 months, I decided to stay this country so I am now studying and working as a chef in a surf club. I am one of the people who use this site to improve my English, as non-English speaker.
I would like to ask, by the way, a question about English word, admission. What does that mean ? When is the word used ?

Hi Sunho,
If you get admission to a university you are allowed to start studying at that university. Hope this helps.

You can also gain admission to a sporting event, football hockey, cinema, theatre, etc.,
You can also use the word to state an admission of guilt or unfaithfulness. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |
