Hi Salmon Sailor Jan,
Many thanks for posting your interesting proposal. Sounds tantalizing. You are right, some kind of guidline on how to deal with countable and uncountable nouns will be very useful. As I see it, there are several categories of nouns: - nouns that are always countable (e.g. car) - nouns that are always uncountable (e.g. information) - nouns that can be uncountable or uncountable depending on their meaning (e.g. much time and many times) - nouns that can be either countable or uncountable depending on the context their used in (e.g. much cloud vs. many clouds) - nouns whose plural form is the same as the singular (e.g. fish)
I'm sure there is detailed overview of mass nouns available in print but it's probably rather technical and therefore boring. We could create a story around the topic and mix it up with a little humour.
Let's see what Alan and his moderator crew have to say on that, Jan... _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |
