Hi,

Changing the subject for a moment, I'd like to ask a computer question. Anyone any ideas how to improve/boost the signal from a wireless router? I've moved it hither and thither in order to receive a better signal in two other parts of the house for two other computers and invariably they show a 'very low' signal.

I'm not expert Alan but AFAIK The keyword is Tin Foil - Its all about reflecting the signal in the right direction.
Basically surround your router with Tin Foil or put it in a box lined with foil.
Then have the box cut open so it is facing your PC/Mac making sure there's no interrupted
(thick walls etc) between Router and computer.
You can also have tin foil behind and surrounding your computer in a similar fashion.
Its about stopping the signal going were its not needed and reflecting it were it is.
Just try not to make your house look like an episode of space 1999 :-)

Seen a US bloke a while back but I cant find the link
This guy basically lives on a massive ranch in Texas or somewhere and had modified his Airport(Mac router)- He had taken the casing off and added a few pieces including(don't laugh) an empty "Pringles" tube which according to him:
If he pointed the Tube to were he knew he was going to be working that day he could get a signal on his lap top up to 5 miles away from his house but I assume you won't need that much?

I personally think in the near future there will be free wireless internet nearly everywhere there are people.

Be interested to here Torstens take on that.

Hi AL,

Thanks for that. Just discovered that we're fresh out of foil but as soon as I get some, I'll give it a try.
