As I contemplate my future
I know I haven't long to go,
But before I take my leave of you
I'll put on one last show.
I'll try to entertain you,
Try to make you laugh or smile
Though it may sound so pathetic,
Please bear with me for a while.

When I contemplate my past mistakes
I know just where I went wrong.
Instead of writing poetry
I should have written songs.
For musics been my whole life,
The thing that brings me joy.
I've sang and whistled my whole life,
Ever since I was a boy.

I've came up through the ages,
And I've heard the many stars.
From really awful singers,
To kids who twanged guitars.
Through the years I've had my favourites,
From Sinatra to Astaire,
But now that I am wiser
There is one without compare.

A singer with a heart of gold,
And a voice so rich and rare.
Though he's no longer with us
I'm sure he entertains "up there".
For his songs tell of reality
And the things we say and do.
And if you listen to his words,
He'll change your life for you.

His name is Harry Chapin
And to me he was "The King."

Hi Bil,
Very practical while you are in depression like me. These days I've lost myself in contemplations about my past and like the hero in the poem I know I went wrong !I think in some aspects is due to the weather, every April I fell in deep depression and thoughts about whether I accomplished any goals in life.

Anyway, can you tell me what is the meaning of "Please bear with me for a while." ?

Good morning Borislav. Well, as a rough translation it means;

"Please let me continue."
"Please be patient while I explain."
"Please, I know you are bored, but please, hear me out."

Kitos.

LOL !Puzzling in high extent ! Is this a set collocation? Perhaps Harry Chapin has made an elusive query in this case.
