Hi,

Simple past to indirect:

d1: I lost a good and very wise friend.
x1: d1 said that he lost a good and very wise friend.
x1: d1 said that he had lost a good and very wise friend.

Are both sentences correct?

Thanks

I think only the 2nd sentence is correct because the action in the direct sentence is not the truth nor a future action, changing the tense is necessary.

Oh, I see. Thanks Wanderer.

Please check the following sentences:

Simple present to indirect:

9:00 x1: I have to go there in 15min.
9:10 y1: x1 said that he has to go there in 15min.
9:20 y1: x1 said that he had to go there in 15min.

Thank you

In these cases, I would rather use the exact point of time. That means 5 minutes later. But at 9.20, you should say......at 9.15

Please don't conclude hastily. Asking someone else about something means you don't really understand it and don't really know whether an answer is good or not. My explanations might be good but not nice as you've said.

Please convert the following unreal conditional sentences to indirect:

x1: If I had attended the party, I would have met a lot of friends.( 3rd unreal)
x2: If I had an aeroplane, I would visit every country.(2nd unreal)

Thank you

It's too easy. Nothing is changed after changing direct unreal conditionals into indirect speech.

So the answer is,
x1 said that If he had attended the party, he would have met a lot of friends.(3rd unreal)
x2 said that If he had an aeroplane, he would visit every country.(2nd unreal)

Thanks very much wanderer.

Please convert the following question tag to indirect:
y1: He is a good teacher, isn't he?

Thank you
