What does 'large-area' mean in this sentence:

"At this stage, there is no established best material or manufacturing process for creating low-cost, large-area electronics," says Calvin Chan, an electrical engineer at NIST.

Does 'large-area' mean that it is electronic devices that are big and wide (in example wide screen TV) or that it is wide range of devices, beginning from solar panels all the way down to microprocessors?

I found it here.

Both low-cost and large-area are adjectives modifying for the noun electronics. In this situation, it means electronic devices that are sold in a large area. Just very simple.

Wrong again VW. You really should stop jumping to conclusions.

It would seem from googling that another term for "large-area electronics" is "roll-toroll processing". While I know nothing about this technology, here is a wiki page about it:

Roll-to-roll processing (or "large-area electronics)
