There is a song "SOAD - Lonely day" and it consist of

Quote:
The most loneliest day of my life

Why "the most loneliest"? Is it just for emphasise that something is "the most" ?

Many thanks.

Although it's grammatically wrong, I think the songwriter wanted to emphasize how lonely the person is!

As Wanderer said, using "most" + "-est" is grammatically wrong.

Sometimes we use them together to imitate a child's speech. At other times we use them to imitate the speech of people we think are stupid. For example, on the VH1 channel there used to be a quiz show called "America's Most Smartest Model". On the show, fashion models were given simple quiz questions to answer, and most of them couldn't solve them correctly. People knew immediately from the title of the show -- because it contained the words "most smartest" -- that this show was about stupid people, and not smart ones.
