Essay: Important qualities of a good roommate! #1 (permalink) Mon Apr 05, 2010 22:46 pm   Essay: Important qualities of a good roommate!

Hi,
I hope that you enjoy reading this essay:

Many Students have to live with roommates while going to school or university. What are some of the important qualities of a good roommate? Use Specific reasons and examples to explain why these qualities are important?

After living more than seven years with several roommates from different cities, the following reasons are the qualities of good roommates which I have spent remarkable times of being with them.

In my opinion, choosing a person as my roommate is an important issue, because I will spend more than half of my day along with them. I am not a smoker, alcoholic, or drug user; then these are the basic qualities to start to find a person as my roommate.

After choosing a proper fellow, there is usually a conversation to set up some rules to start to live together. I have seen several roommates whom they were trying to legislate their own rules, and ask us to follow them. It is some kind of childishness and arrogance, because in most cases, it shows that it is their first time to be far away from their home. Over time, they feel that it is really hard to follow and bear with their own rules. So, breaking the rules is beginning, and then some argues will rise up. Because of this matter which had happened for me few times, I would rather to choose those ones whom they have the experiences of living with some roommates before.

Understanding the facts and issues which are related to my age has a little bit obscurity for young roommates. In most cases they are noisy, irrespective, irresponsible, and immature. Therefore, the next qualities are having good-relationship, respectfulness, reliability, and most importantly maturity. Of course it is really hard to find someone who fits in all of above qualities. I myself would rather to choose an even elder roommate than those whom even have the same age as me. Elder roommates are experienced, and sometimes they are very good advisers when I need someone to help me. Of course, I need to bind yourself to treat them with more respect.

After behavioral issues and making the living rules, it is about to follow them. Because of this important issue, I have had many quarrels with my roommates. Not doing the chores like: Cleaning the room, washing the dishes, going to the grocery, cooking the meals, and being quiet when someone is going to study or sleep a little bit earlier; can make quarrels because of irresponsibility. I am an obligated person, so I do my assigned tasks in time. Being lazy and not responsible reminds me that famous scene of seeing mountains of unwashed and dirty dishes in the bowl of the sink.

All in all, in my opinion just having a good personality is just half of the capability to live with roommates. Of course I myself once was a recruit when I went to an outside college of my city for the first time. It takes me couple of terms to learn how to go along with someone with a different culture, different custom, different tradition, and even different experience of living. I think that being respectful, responsible, and humble are the key points of a being a good and memorable roommate.

Hi,
Dear Kitos, would you mind please evaluate and score this essay for me?

P.S.
To be honest, this essay takes me more than thirty minutes to complete. In fact, this is the third one! I listed the ideas in no time, but the problem was that I suddenly lost for words to start the essay. Regarding that I am as seven-year dorm fellow, but I wasn’t able to concentrate my thoughts. Finally, after writing two incomplete essays, I finished this one.
what is wrong with me, hum? I think it is about my insomnia. These days I don’t sleep well!

Good morning Salivan. Calm down! This isn't half as bad as it at first appears, but it isn't good either.
You should start by choosing three main points and then state them in a conise fashion.
It appears that writing essays is not your forte, so perhaps you ought to concentrate your efforts on reading the good essays that have already been written here. You know the people who are capable of composing good work. Study their style and turn of phrase. Aim for brevity and clarity. You wrote an awful lot here, but unfortunately it failed to impress.

Choosing a room-mate is an important decision that one must make when starting college.
As a non- smoking tee-totaler it isn't easy, but it will be important for my peace of mind whilst studying there for four years.

We should start out by mutually agreeing on certain rules. To trust each other these rules should never be breached.
I would prefer to have an older room-mate, for having previously had trouble with younger room-mates I feel that their maturity makes them the preferred option.

We should respect the others privacy and sleep requirements, even if it sometimes means we must study outside of the room. This should be a part of our reciprocal agreement.
Being sympathetic to the emotional and educational problems of the other would be a bonus.

That's it dear Kitos.

As you may know, my first problem was generating the ideas. So, I think I have to take the next step: Organizing my thoughts, and also continuing to find ways about finding proper ideas!

About impression, now you mention it! I read your correction carefully, it really far better than what I have done. I think I expended too many detailed. It is somehow boring! I am sure now that I could write it more efficiently.

I will try to read more, more, and more.

Many thanks Kitos.
