WHERE AND WERE #2 (permalink) Wed Apr 07, 2010 8:14 am   WHERE AND WERE

We were waiting for you. Where were you?

Why were you so late? We were worried about you. Where have you been?

WHERE is a questioning word.

Who?
What?
Which?
When?
Why?
Where?

Hi Franck,
'
Note that 'were' is the past tense of the verb 'be' ('was' singular and 'were' plural) and 'where' is an adverb indicating place. The words are pronounced differently as in:

Where were you going? I know where you were going.

Hi Franck,

Thanks for that. Just one word of advice - using capital letters in your posts is regarded as shouting. I know you probably didn't mean to 'shout' but it's best to use lower case letters.
