Which is better, with an article "the" before "Harbin Institute of Technology" or no article before it? Personally, I think that even if it is an "of" phrase, because of the location name "Harbin," it is more sound to me that there is no article before the name. Please advise.

Definitely use "the" Harry, unless you have further context to display.

Thank you, Kitosdad. May I know your explanation why there is a need to put the article "the"?

Simply because the Institute is a specific institute. One of a kind. All such buildings of repute have "the" preceding their names.

The Houses of Parliament.
The Bank of England.
The Tower of London.

Sentences can be constructed to leave out "the,"but it is usual to always use this prefix.

I see. I get your point, Sir Kitosdad. Thank you so much for your input. This case just made me confused because there was one native American editor who said that it is better not to have a "the" article before the aforementioned institute name, while here comes another editor who said that a "the" article is necessary before the name.

Thanks once again.
