hi all ;
All those who entered TOEIC , Have not you noticed that our listening scores usually higher than reading scores? why ?
Regards Emad |
I have some experimental tests with an "evaluating score sheet", a score conversion table for practicing. According to that sheet the same amount of correct answers worth more scores in the listening section rather than the reading section. Perhaps listening is easier for most of the examinees, i guess this is because of time management. At the listeng part you only have to focus on what you hear. At the reading part you also have to manage your time as well, such as 30 sec/questions, etc. But it can vary from person to person. |

Good day all I've pondered upon the very same and, until further pondering, believe the reason to be is one does best at the first section of the TOEIC test, which in my case was listening; by the time reading comprehension came on, my adrenaline level was much lower. Be well! |

In our experience we have found that students find it easier to understand the spoken word than the written. It is a strange fact of time and need, of quantity of words and situation. Quite a technical task to understand the many reasons, but is definitely not down to just one reason.
In the TOEICŪ test sitting, students get very engrossed in the reading questions and a majority loose track of time on the initial simpler questions, to later find that they do not have enough time for the longer questions. Students also have a fear of the test, over concentrate or just dont understand what is expected. All this is quite normal and a characteristic of any testing system.
Students can improve reading with some simple techniques, which will help them in the test. Again the fact is that the test is not checking whether you can read a whole text or not, but is looking for core skills. The TOEIC test measures your core skills because these are the ones you will use in the workplace.
No matter how much vocabulary and grammar you learn, you must still identify your weaknesses in the core skills and improve them. This can be done by a greater level of submersion in the language, using the language practically and by technique. A main reason why a person learns a language quicker when in the land of that language.
Also with the TOEIC test, in fact with any test, a student's performance will always be affected by whether they are accustomed to the test or not. This means whether they fully understand the test and how to approach the questions. One may ask if this is so, can a test accurately measure the student's ability. The fact is again that the student's test result will always contain an amount of negativity that is not necessarily due to any lack in the knowledge being measured.
At onlineenglish.eu we allow students not only to learn English grammar and vocabulary using focused training on core skills, the fastest way to learn, but also offer dedicated training for sitting the TOEIC test that additionally focuses on those points outside that of the language alone to improve your performance in the test.
In this way you can very quickly improve not only your TOEIC score level and remove or reduce the negativity of not being accustomed, but also your English language ability and core skills.
To teach, one must be able to learn!
