I'm confused with the usage of these two:

Both band sounds alike.
or
Both bands sound alike.

I guess, both are grammatically correct. What is the difference then?

I'd think "both bands" are correct.

Which sentence is correct? #3 (permalink) Mon Apr 12, 2010 23:35 pm   Which sentence is correct?

Band - singular.
Bands - plural.

"Both bands..." mean there were two bands, so the plural noun is needed.
"Both bands sound alike."

"Both band sounds alike."
"This band sounds like that band."

'Sounds' is the third person (singular) of the verb in the present tense. (he sounds, she sounds, it sounds)
Sound is correct for the rest (I sound, you sound, we sound, they sound.)
