Have you tried using context?

We'd need to know the context in which it was used to be able to say for certain, but usually it is a discussion where someone or something is commented on (usually negatively) in great detail. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

| I agree with Milanya and BN that the phrase really needs a context. Furthermore, I would doubt if it could be used without any modification or qualification. For example, if Japan is added as a qualifier before bashing, then "a Japan-bashing session" would more easily make sense: a session criticising Japan. |

Sorry for adding any trouble! The context for this phrase is as follows: Get your group together to review their efforts. Remember, this is not a bashing session. It’s designed to provide everyone with a good set of messages, an understanding of the template you’re encouraging them to use, and a chance to brainstorm with the other sales people. Thank you for your help! |

That's clearer now, thanks.
This is not a session where you spend time criticising each other, but an opportunity to support each other. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Thank you, Beeesneees!
I see bashing here means criticsing, then what is the exact meaning of session here? Does it mean "meeting", " court " or "period" or something else? |

Hi Millie,
'Session' is a particular period of time in which an activity takes place. You could for example talk about a 'question and answer session', a 'recording session' or an 'afternoon/morning session' to describe the different parts of a conference. Note also the expression 'in session' which refers to the time during which the activity takes place as in: I'm afraid the conference is in session at the moment and so you can't speak to Mr Smith until the conference is finished.
