as an expression the lowest common denominator, in my country at least, means something like a basis of reasoning, commonly accepted by all.
e.g. The Nuclear Security Summit is likely to trigger the same mixed emotions. The copies of the summit's final communique and workplan that I've seen inevitably read like the lowest common denominator documents they are. The communique preamble, reads as follows: source |

Hi everyone, Thank you all for being interested to my post, I think it`s clear enough now because:
1.(mathematics) The smallest positive integer which is a multiple of every denominator of several fractions.
The lowest common denominator of 1 / 6 and 3 / 10 is 30.
2.(figuratively) The most simple, basic and unsophisticated things that most people share or the most base shared interest or characteristic among a group or collection of people etc. e.g. Reality TV really is appealing to the lowest common denominator in audiences. and if you have any other explanation please post it. |
