Does the earth go around the sun? #1 (permalink) Wed Nov 30, 2005 0:38 am   Does the earth go around the sun?

Dear teachers!

I would like to know why it is correct to ask

DOES THE EARTH GO AROUND THE SUN?

as opposed to

DOES THE EARTH GOES AROUND THE SUN?

Thanks

Hi English Learner,

When you want to make the question or negative form of the simple present and past, you have to use the auxiliary verb do+ the infinitive form of the main verb. In this way you have:

Does the earth GO (infinitive) round the sun?

or

The sun doesn't (does not) GO round the earth.
