Linguistics (not "linguistic") is the science of how language works. It has about a million subfields, such as phonology, morphology, syntax, all the way to sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and more. I won't name them all, partly because there are too many, and partly because I sense you're asking me to do your homework.
