Most Americans and Brits pronounce it broo-SHET-a... which is incorrect.

The correct way to pronounce "bruschetta" is this:

Broo-SKET-ah

Why?

1) It is an Italian word
2) In Italian, "ch" = "k"

Perhaps americans and Brits are confusing the pronunciation of "sch" in German words... assuming that this "sh" phoneme is correct in "bruschetta". Of course, such an association is invalid, since it is Italian, not Deutsch.

So the next time you're at an Italian restaurant, order the broo-SKET-ah and set a good example.

If the waiter tries to correct you, explain to him the "ch = k in Italian" rule, and that (thus) broo-shet-ah is wrong.

Spread the gospel! Let's stop making ourselves look like uneducated hicks.
