Hi everybody,

My name is Kelli and I´m from Brazil. I´m psychologist, 31 years old, married, no kids.

I will make the FCE (Cambridge) in June and I´m studing a lot. I´ve been studing english for 3 years and I improved my english a lot in the last 6 months.

I also did the Toeic Bridge last week, but I did not have the results. I think I did it well. I think I made about 90% correct - lets see... I will tell you sooner...

This site has been very usefull for me because of the listening parts. I´m not doing all the exercises and following all the lesson. I am studing in a regular english school ( I don´t know if I can say this way). So, I use the site to complement my studies and to practice some situations of tests.

Finally. I would like to thank you and say that your job is amazing and help lots of people like me every single day. CONGRATULATIONS.

Best wishes, KELLI

You're welcome, Kelli. Please note the correct spelling of the words 'English' and 'useful'.

NICE TO MEET YOU, LINA #4 (permalink) Mon May 03, 2010 15:30 pm   NICE TO MEET YOU, LINA

Hello, Lina...

Im so glad to receive your message! I was thinking: you will improve your English a lot living in Seattle... It must be a very good experience...

Are you living there because of your work? Or did you just choose to live there?

Keep in touch...

Congratulations! #6 (permalink) Wed May 05, 2010 12:41 pm   Congratulations!

Hi Lina,

I have to say "Congratulations" because I know that is not easy to study in School Medicine. Imagine when you have to study a foreign country... My husband is a doctor too... So, I know the day routine very well. So hard!

For me is very important to communicate with people that speak English. I will make the FCE (Cambridge University) in next June. Sometimes I think that I know everything I need. But sometimes I feel like "Oh, my God! I dont know anything!"

How many years do you study English before to move to USA?

Keep in touch, KELLI

Hello Kelli,
Thanks for keeping in touch. I have learned English for more than 25 years I think, yet, since it is not my mother tongue, I should keep learning up to now. I took about a year intensive program to gain TOEFL requirement prior moving to University of Botswana, Gaborone-Botswana as an English speaking country for studying HIV AIDS in 1998. After that, I only took a regular institutional TOEFL test before I moved to USA in 2008. Same to me Kelli, among Indonesians, I think I know everything about English, in fact, I know nothing. But don't be depressed, be wise with yourself and follow the path. I bet you will do a really good job. Lina

Morning... #8 (permalink) Thu May 06, 2010 14:02 pm   Morning...

Lina,

I was thinking: it´s very interesting how we receive new people in our lives. You sent me a message, a answered and we continue keeping in touch. Now, I feel happy when you write for me, as if you were an old friend... isn´t strange?

But the fact is: now, for me, you are a new friend. A "virtual" friend, but a friend.

An excellent weekend!!!

See you,

KELLI

PS: Please, if I write something wrong you can correct me. No problem. You are miles always in front of me in English language. Thanks!

Kelli,
You are so sweet. Awesome. Why don't you record your voice? That's a good start for speaking practice. Have a nice weekend too... Lina

Is that a correct grammatical structure you've used?

Hi Richard,
thanks for your corrections, that are very helpful. I wrote I would like to become a friend (is that sentence wrong?), you wrote "I would like to be a friend..." is this an option or the right way to ask? Hasta luego, Micky.

Hi Micky,
You're welcome.
You hadn't written that. The word 'like' was omitted in the first sentence. The second one is correct in my book.
I am a learner too. Let's see, what will be the moderators opinion on this.

I'm almost sure about these structures:
1- I want to/would like to be friends with you/somebody
2- I want to/ would like to make friends with somebody/you
Like:
I would like to be a friend of yours.
I want to make friends with all of you.

Hi Richard, you are right, I omitted the word "like" , but now I am thinking that it would be even better in this way: I would like to be friends of you both. Thanks!!
