Hi every one,
I don't quite understand the following sentence that I come across in my textbook:
Add justice to the far-flung round of human endeavor and you have civilization.
Does it mean "Civilization is shaped when some one's creation applied in life"
I'll greatly appreciate your kindness.

Hi Ctnsite,

I wonder whether the word should be 'far flung' ' suggesting something like 'wide ranging', 'in all parts of the world'.

Maybe you find it difficulty to guess the meaning of the sentence when it standing alone. So I type the whole paragraph here in the hope that you will have some idea:
Add love to a house and you have a home. Add righteousness to a city and you have a community. Add truth to a pile of red brick and you have a school. Add religion to the humblest of edifices and you have a sanctuary. Add justice to the far-flung round of human endeavor and you have civilization. Put them all together, exalt them above their present imperfections, add to them the vision of humankind redeemed, forever free of need and strife and you have a future lighted with the radiant colors of hope.
I'm looking forward to your feedback. Thank you.

Hi,

I would suggest that 'far flung' could be interpreted as 'wide ranging'. In other words if you take all the activities that humans strive for and then introduce a sense of justice or fairness, this will result in a civilised state.

Hi, Alan
I know the word "far flung" already. I just don't understand about the meaning of the sentence. According to your opinion, we only have civilization when we respect people who dedicate to society (we should know their dedication). Am I right?
Thanks in advance.

Civilisation only comes when there is justice, I imagine is what the writer is saying.
