Hello everyone :)

I have a problem. And I was kind of hoping someone might have the solution. I have good writing & speaking skills when it comes to English. My problem is with listening and usually it happens only with native speakers.

It takes my mind a few seconds before I grasp what the other person is telling me. I keep repeating what I have heard in my mind until I understand. I also want to find out something; is it possible I can listen to English music without reading the lyrics? I try doing that, but I end up missing a lot of words.

Thanks a lot :)

Listening skills is also my problem

but I believe this :

If you want to be a good speaker you must to be a good listener and if you want to be a good listener you must to be a good speaker...

What I find really weird is everybody keeps telling me that I am a very good speaker. And I don't understand how it's possible I can have trouble listening and not speaking.

You need only to grasp the gist of the conversation, and the various intonations.

For example; When you ask someone a question --you are already aware of probably two or three responses to this question. You already know this because you have answered the same type of question many times in your life.
Look for the facial response as a first indication of the probable reply, then the body posture, and listen for the intonation in the reply.

I hope you can understand the meaning in my poor explanation. I have used this method successfully for about nine years in Germany, and I still don't understand German. :-))

Hi basma,
This problem faces most of English learners as ESL , You may overcome this problem by r listening to authentic English materials like films and songs .

For example you can listen to English news during having your breakfast , To English series during having dinner . It won't take any time but the most important thing it must be regular and contentious .

I think this will be effective method for you .

Take care
