I want you to imagine that a man is walking ..........

(a) in the country
(b) on the countryside
(c) by the countryside
(d) over the country

Test No. incompl/inter-20 "Will or Shall?", answer 6

I want you to imagine that a man is walking in the country.

Correct answer: (a) in the country

Your answer was: incorrect
I want you to imagine that a man is walking on the countryside.

what is wrong with 'walking by the countryside'???

Hi Sangeetha,

The accepted phrase is in the countryside. Generally with by in this sort of phrase to do with location you would have to indicate a more specific area as in by the sea/by the river/by the canal.
