To me the best way to prepare for the GRE are not Barron's or Kaplan's books because they are generally alright but not demanding enough, but to find an extensive GRE dictionary (at least 5000 words) and learn from it. It's a lot harder that way but if you aiming for a nice spot, that's what you have to do. That's what I did and from my first go I scored 96% (710) on the Verbal section. With that score I've just been offered full financial aid (tuition/fees+scholarship+allowance) for PhD programs in The University of Virginia, Carnegie Mellow and UCLA. Hope that helps.
