Hi All,

Here is a sentence makes me confused and I think my problem is on the word "thus",

"It requires a written description of the invention plays a vital role in curtailing claims that do not require undue experimentation to make and use, and thus satisfy enablement, but that have not been invented, and thus cannot be described.”

Why the author use 2 "thus" hear, is there any simple way to rewrite this sentence?

Thanks.

Thus... #2 (permalink) Thu May 27, 2010 4:07 am   Thus...

It's far too mangled for me to attempt to rewrite it. One major problem is that the prepositional object, "invention," is acting as a subject for the verb "plays." Perhaps the writer forgot to include "that" between those two words. Even then, the sentence seems to be cryptic. This is not a good sentence by any measure.
