Still remember that night 2 years ago? When I suddenly fell ill, you carried me on your back to a nearby hospital. You took good care of me while I was having an injection.
Without your help, I would failed the exam.

The text above is a part of our correction tests. The correct answer is to change "failed" into "fail".
But I added a "have" between "would" and "failed". In my opinion, "would have failed" is better than "would fail" here. Anyone would like to explain to me?

I think you are right , as you are talking about some thing ( 2 years ago) and the he really passed the exam

so (would have failed) is the right one , as (would fail) still talks about future.

Takashiro and Ahmed, you are both correct. The verb needs to be 'would have failed' in this context.
