10. Which one is CORRECT? A: What goes up must come down? B: Can't make something out of nothing. C: Where is there smoke there's fire. D: You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs. E: One thing leads to a other.
Dear all, I'm a new here, and I wish I coule get everybody's help, thanks. :)
This question is taken from GMAT, and the right key is D. I know the reason why B C E are wrong, but I was wondering why A is also incorrect? Could anyone help me clear up my doubt, please? Thanks in advance!
I've look A up in a website and here is the explantion: What goes up must come down. Prov. Anything that has risen or been raised up must eventually fall down. When it came time to move out of our second-floor apartment, we looked at our large, heavy sofa with dismay, not sure how we would get it down the stairs. "What goes up must come down," my husband said, "Somehow."
I guess A is wrong just because it can not be ended by a question mark, and it should be a full stop. Who knows? Xianyu |

| A period(full stop) should be used instead of the question mark. What goes up is a subject clause. This sentence is not a question. |

HMtony has said all there is to say on this point, Xianyu. The reason it is wrong is because of the question mark. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hello Mystes,
You are right about that - but none of these statements are questions. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hello Sam,
None of the sentences are quite right as they are written above. Each contains a deliberate mistake. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
