Welcome to the forum, Andrew.
Both those sentences are correct and mean the same thing.
"The table's leg" = the leg which belongs to (is a part of) the table.
the -'s can be used regardless of whether the noun is animate, inanimate, living, dead or never alive.
"The window's frame was rotten." "The frame of the window was rotten." "She pulled on the puppet's strings." "She pulled on the strings of the puppets." "The baby caught hold of the cat's tail." "The baby caught hold of the tail of the cat." "The stone's surface had been rubbed smooth by the sea's constant movement." "The surface of the stone had been rubbed smooth by the constant movement of the sea." _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
