You can use see + ing For example: I enjoy seeing you. I avoid seeing you. I'm interested in seeing you. I'm tired of seeing you. I am accustomed to seeing you.
However, it would be incorrect in your example. If you don't want to use 'used to', but want to emphasise the fact that it wasn't just on one occasion that you saw smoke, you could say: "When I was eight, I regularly saw smoke coming from the chimney." _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Beees, do you think this will work?
When he was eight, he was seeing the girl next door. _________________ If it's not easy, don't do it!

What about this then
I (saw-- was seeing) smoke from the chimney every day from 9 to 10 o'clock ."
or a series on T.V. ( I see one part every day)

seeing here is a gerund , I want it in progressive tenses
Oxford dictionary says it is not usually used in progressive tenses , but I want to know , in a sentence like this can it be used or it is completely incorrect.
Thanks very much. _________________ "There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error....."

That's idiomatic, Tort, so it's fine. "To be seeing someone" means to be dating them. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Though eight looks very early for someone to indulge in such things, I guess it works, grammatically. :-) _________________ Non-native speaker of English

In the progressive tense it should be 'see', not 'seeing' though there is a noticable trend among people nowadays to use this incorrect form: "I'm loving this website" INCORRECT "I'm hating this food" INCORRECT
See here for details of non-continuous verbs that are not used with continuous forms. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Some people are very advanced for their age, Daemon. I had my first boyfriend when I was three.

Did you know he was your boyfriend then or did you realize it later, Bee? ;-) _________________ Non-native speaker of English

ok ,thanks but I'm talking about a series or any other thing that
1- I used to see it in the past regularly
2- It takes a long time at each time I see it.
Can't see here be one of the exception that made the dictionary say ( usually) ?
Sorry for disturbance . _________________ "There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error....."

If I didn't know it then, my mother did. She still delights in pointing out my 'first boyfriend' to everyone. :-/ _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

I can't say definitely that there isn't such an exception when the verb is based in the past, Ahmed, but I really can't think of one. And it's certainly not correct in your example. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

O.k thanks Beeesneees
one last question
If I put (watch) instead of see will it be the same ?
I guess yes
Every day in the past when I was 8 I watched / was watching my favorite Tv programme
I think then it is (watched) (although watch is not from those verbs that don't take ING. _________________ "There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error....."
