Great inventions and discoveries are never made in a day. It takes years of practice and patience to beget the great inventions, and during the years of practice, a person encounters millions of hurdles and obstacles, which are commonly referred to as, mistakes. :-)
Mistakes may be defined as a cause which prevents a person from progressing. Mistakes, as one may ascertain(,) may be attributed to factors such as, lack of concentration, lack of appropriate knowledge of the subject under concern, frustration and overconfidence. Great discoveries are usually accompanied by mistakes, and some of the greatEST inventions WERE accompanied by accidents. E.g. THE discovery of West Indies by Columbus was a mistake, as he was on his way to find a sea route to India, but the storm /drifted/DROVE/ him towards a new land. The great scientist, William H. Oersted discovered accidentally, that THE needle of A magnetic compass gets deflected if it is placed in the vicinity of an electric field. Also, Michael Faraday(,) while working on his experiment to generate electricity from A magnetic field, after successive failures threw the apparatus in a fit of rage, but he accidentally noticed the deflection of THE galvanometer needle, and thus he was able to frame the laws of electro-magnetic induction.
As far as the progress is concerned with the above stated discoveries and inventions, it may be noted, that THE West Indies now houses millions of inhabitants(.) Oersted's discovery exhilarated the creation of devices such as the Van De Graff generator(.) Faraday's discovery led to the invention of AC and DC generators, and the electricity generated from them lights up billions of houses and industries. While Oersted's discovery creates the basis for many laws of physics, Faraday's invention is today charged as the electricity bills. Thus one may infer, that these discoveries were not just limited to their inventors, they paved the way for many new inventions, and thus helped the world to progress.
Mistakes are not /just/ONLY/ associated with great inventors, they are associated to household and individuals too. When a person commits a mistake, he tries to prevent himself from committing the same mistake again e.g. a student learns from the mistakes he commits in the examination, and interestingly, one may notice that he tries his level best to avoid that mistake in future. Furthermore, mistakes make a person more alert and aware. Great things in life are never achieved in a single run, hindrances and obstacles tend to break the acumen of a person, a million of times, but if mistakes are taken in a positive way, it surely leads to /gross/OVERALL/ development. GovernmentS too, while forming the policies, take into /concern/CONSIDERATION/ theIR previous mistakes, and ARE thus able to reform the economic policies for the betterment of the people.
In short, the mistakes are just "necessary evils", which on the one hand tend to discourage a person, and on the other hand encourages him to improve, and thus finally emerge as a winner. Additionally, blunders do play a significant role, as they burnish the worth of the great inventions and discoveries. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Good morning Goek. As usual, a good essay, containing many new words that will be of help to others.
