Is SAT required for people graduate outside the U.S? Sat Dec 17, 2005 20:44 pm  Is SAT required for people graduate outside the U.S?

I'm trying to get into a college and I asked me for SAT. When applying I have already send all the sealed diploma certificates from my country. They accepted it and then ask me to take SAT.

My question is: it is reasonable? In my limited knowledge SAT is only needed for people who were educated in the U.S. In my case, I wasn't and I still have to take SAT?

Please advise, thanks in advance.

If you are going to a college in America, it is very reasonable. If an American wants to go to a college in Europe, they have to take the baccalaureate. The inverse is equally true.

Hmm, I wonder, if I decided to apply to a US college 15 years after taking SAT, I would probably have to take the new version, would I not?

The SAT is supposed to be a measure of one's academic aptitude and knowledge, and therefore an American college that requires the SAT or ACT from Americans will probably also require it for foreigners. It's perfectly reasonable. The colleges can't know the validity of foreign diplomas, and so the SAT is their best measure of the student's ability.

No, it's not sad. Universities need to have entrance standards, and they also have to be reasonably sure that the students they admit have a good chance of completing their programs successfully. The various nations' tests help assure this.

Also, it's very easy in many countries to buy counterfeit diplomas and transcripts, so simply receiving a transcript and diploma from a foreign country doesn't mean anything. The results of the SAT and the ACT come directly from the testing authorities, who also make reasonably sure that the person taking the test is really who he says he is.

And if you were at an American university, and you received a certificate from a foreign student's English school, and it was written in very bad English, would you accept it, or would you give him a test?

The SAT is like a universal standard for prospective undergraduate students in testing their abilities in math and english.

To study in a university in the US, you should have a certain level of competency in english. The same goes for math. These things are universal, and bieng from another country doesnt really matter.

Well, the SAT isnt really that big of a deal. Your SAT score in not the only thing which determines your admission into an american university. Your essays, academic performance, teacher's recommendations, and extra-curricular activities also play a major part.

So concentrate on the above mentioned parts as well. If you do, i am sure you'll get through a great college!

Best of luck!
