Do you prefer to live in a small town or big city? #1 (permalink) Sat Jun 19, 2010 16:49 pm   Do you prefer to live in a small town or big city?

I will appreciate every comment on my essay.
Thanks in advance

I live in Isfahan. It is the second biggest city in Iran. However, when I compare my city with Tehran, the biggest city in Iran besides being the capital city, I like my city so much more. However, I do not like to live in a small town in Iran, especially towns which are far from center of provinces. In my opinion, that is not important how big your city is. For the most part, you should love it and you should feel comfortable in your city. In the rest of the essay, I will explain and flesh out my ideas.
Let’s see how Isfahan and Tehran are different from my point of view. Tehran is very big and crowded. It has a population of almost 13 million people. Trains and buses are so crowded that sometimes it is hard to breath because of overcrowding. There are many tall buildings. However, most of the buildings are old, especially in the south and t central areas. The pace of life is very fast. As little by little you move toward northern areas everything is changed. You can see meaningful differences between North and South. Something that I have noticed about Tehran was that the dignity of human was not high there. You feel everyone just thinks about himself .You can recognize stress and anxiety from which people suffer, by their face. I have seen many times that people were speaking to themselves. In addition, streets are somehow dirty. Every day, you come across some mice in waterways when you are walking in sidewalks. Traffic is too jammed due to a lack of enough space for cars in the streets. Weather is polluted, so that most of the times you cannot see the mountains around Tehran, because of particles of smoke in the air. Although, Isfahan has these problems in some ways, problems are not comparable with Tehran. In Isfahan you feel more relaxed. You can feel that human dignity is higher. There’s a lot of traffic but less than Tehran. The difference between the north and sought is not so noticeable.
In spite of the downsides of living in Tehran, it has some advantages over Isfahan. Tehran is the capital city of Iran. Consequently, there are many facilities there (e.g. more amusement parks, health clubs, universities, diverse good, new things etc.). In addition, you can find a job easier if you are skilled.
To sum it up, I cannot set some rules about big and small cities because I have not been in many of them. So, I compared two big cities in Iran. I think most of the problems with Tehran are because of its large population. In spite of that, we should not omit this fact that mismanagement is another reason for Tehran’s problems. I believe that with a better management we could cope with many problems in Tehran. However, in regard with my preference, I do love my city. It is big but it is not the biggest city in my country. I feel Isfahan is my home because I feel comfortable and relaxed there. Nevertheless, I am a little concerned about my future because there are not many jobs related to my major in Isfahan. In my view, it is not important how your city is big. I think you should be just content with your place and this satisfaction depends on your personality, age, family and so on.
