Hello, mr. Kitos and other members of forum. This essay is from Longman cd, mini-test 5. Although you are not familiar with two sources, it would be useful to know what do you think briefly about this essay. All in all, thank you very much! What information does the listening passage provide to supplement what is presented in the reading passage?
Both the reading and the listening passage discuss how Dogson College should spend a huge bequest, which it has suddenly received. The reading provides three main points from the plan of the administration, whereas the lecture describes the reaction of the faculty on this plan.
The fist point of the administration plan is that a huge amount of money should be spent on creating a new classroom building. According to the speaker, this idea is partially supported by the faculty. However, the members of faculty think that this building should be used only to decrease high classes instead of increase the amount of students.
The second point is about creating the new gymnasium, because the existing building is too old. On the contrary, members of the faculty decide that the gymnasium should be only repaired and expanded a little bit.
Finally, the last point about increasing of salaries is undermined by the faculty. It was true that the administrative pay was low, but the faculty also has the problem with their wages. As a result, it is decided that the rest of money should be spent on increasing scholarships.
In conclusion, three options, presented by the administration of Dodgson College in the reading passage are weakened by notions of the faculty presented in the lecture.

The fist point of the administrationS plan is that a huge amount of money should be spent on creating a new classroom building. According to the speaker, this idea is partially supported by the faculty. However, the members of faculty think that this building should be used only to decrease THE ALREADY HIGH NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN THE CURRENT CLASSROOMS(,) instead of increasING the NUMBERS of students.
The second point is about creating the new gymnasium, because the existing building is too old. On the contrary, members of the faculty decideD that the gymnasium should be only repaired and expanded a little bit.
//Finally, the last point CONCERNS THE increasing of salaries OF THE CURRENT STAFF AND is undermined by the faculty. It was true that the administrative pay was low, but the faculty also has the problem with their wages. THIS WASN'T VERY CLEAR,WHAT PROBLEM??//
As a result, it is decided that the rest of money should be spent on increasing scholarships.
In conclusion, three options, presented by the administration of Dodgson College in the reading passage are weakened by notions of the faculty presented in the lecture. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: _________________ Keep it simple ... Yoy are right! It is really unclear..
Finally, the last point concerns increasing of salaries of the current staff is undermined by the faculty. It was true that the administrative pay was low, but the faculty members also have low salaries. So, increasing wages only for administraton would be unfair. Instead, it is decided that it is better to spend the rest of money on increasing scholarships for students. |
