Please find reading passage below

The number of people in the US who are quitting their corporate jobs to start their own businesses is growing. One recent best-selling book entitled Fire your Boss! seems to reflect the growing discontent with company life. Why are so many people going into their own businesses?

One of the most frustrating things about corporate life is the bureaucracy. This is the administrative system of paperwork and red tape that keeps track of everything in the corporation. Any decision must be agreed upon by many people in different departments and levels of the company. This can be very frustrating for individual employees who want to have control over their own work. They can become exasperated when their good ideas get tied up for months in the bureaucratic machinery. Employees often long the freedom of being their own boss.

Another depressing aspect of working for a corporation is the lack of job security. Contrary to business owners, employees in a large company can be fired at any time, for almost no reason. If there is a downturn in the economy, layoffs are likely to come. Even if a worker has done his best to serve the corporations, he could find himself fired without warning or explanation. When a person works for himself, however, he cannot be fired.

The traditionally attractive fringe benefits of a corporate position have been decreasing in recent years as well. There was a time when landing a job at a top corporation meant the employee was assured of a good retirement. More and more these days, however, pension benefits are being cut to lower payroll costs. Workers are being forced to worry more about their own retirement plans. In the same vein, health care is another benefit that has started to evaporate. Health insurance premiums are rising, while covered medical conditions are shrinking. This means employees are paying more out-of-pocket expenses than before and getting less care in return.

My response

Both the lecture and the reading passage discuss the advantages and disadvantages of owning a small business. While the reading states the reasons that people are quiting their job to start their own business, the lecture casts doubts on several keys of passage by explaining the disadvantage of owning a business.

To start with, the lecturer says that there is a problem of bureaucracy in starting a business. A business man has to get licence to start a business. It is a long process. Same, in dissolving the partnership, they have to face lot of paper work. In contrast, the reading is saying that a person is own boss in a business. There is no delay in executing his ideas. It is very different what is said in the lecture.

Also, the professor says that in a business, there is low job security. If an owner is sick or not want to work, his business will suffer a lot. He is the only person to share his responsibilities in a business. In contrast, reading explains that now a days, people are leaving job and starting their own business as they are getting less job security in jobs. Employees can be fired anytime without stating any reason. Downturn in economy and layoff in companies, attract more people to start their own business.

Again, the lecturer explains that in a business, a person has to plan his health and retired plan himself. He has to pay his premium his own. Where as, in a job, employer is responsible for fringe benefits. If they are shrinking their responsibilities, still there is a chances to get some benefits.

To conclude, the professor is totally disagree with the passage.

Both the lecture and the reading passage discuss the advantages and disadvantages of owning a small business. While the reading states the reasons that people are quitTing their job to start their own business, the lecture casts doubts on several keys of THE passage by explaining the disadvantage of owning a business.

To start with, the lecturer says that there is a problem of bureaucracy in starting a business. A business man has to OBTAIN A licence to start a business. It is a long process. THE same bureaucracyarises when dissolving A partnership(.) They BOTH have to face lot of paper work. In contrast, the reading is saying that a person is HIS own boss in a business. There ARE no delayS in executing his ideas. It is very different FROM what is said in the lecture.

Also, the professor says that in a business, there is low job security. If an owner is sick or DOES not want to work, his business will suffer a lot. He is the only person to share his responsibilities in THE business. In contrast, reading explains that nowadays, people are leaving THEIR jobS and starting their own businessES as they are getting less job security in jobs AS AN EMPLOYEE. Employees can be fired any time without THE COMPANY HAVING TO statE any reason. DownturnS in THE economy and layoffS in companies, attract ENCOURAGE more people to start their own business.

Again, the lecturer explains that in a business, a person has to plan his health and retirMENT plan himself. He has to pay his premium his ownHIMSELF . Where as, in a job, THE employer is responsible for fringe benefits. If they are shrinking SHIRKING their responsibilities, still there ARE STILL chances to get some benefits BY BECOMING SELF-EMPLOYED

To conclude, the professor is IN total disagreeMENT with the passage.
