Preparing young people for leadership #1 (permalink) Sun Jun 20, 2010 20:54 pm   Preparing young people for leadership

Leadership is a quality of a person by the dint of which, he takes responsibility of a team, a society, or a sect. And leader is a person, who is appointed by a society, to control a regime effectively. Leader is a person who represents a society, and presents problems on the behalf of a society or a team. Leadership has to be augmented with qualities such as, unbiased judgment, effective decision making at the time of crisis, sympathy and empathy for teammates. If these qualities are not appended, leadership turns into dictatorship and monarchy, and can produce dismal outcomes. A leader can be successful, if and only if, he alienates his personal benefits, and considers problems and benefits from the societal point of view.

Citing certain examples to prove the above stated fact, a team excels in sports such as, football, basketball and cricket, by the virtue of teamwork. And for teamwork to be successful, an effective leadership is required. Apart from being well familiarized with problems faced by his team-mates, a leader or a team captain has to bear feelings of empathy and sympathy for his team-mates. If he fails to do so, he is regarded as a dictator, working for his personal benefits. Also, whether a team wins or loses, in both the cases, leader has to show up on behalf of his team, and has to face questions posed by media and other people. Additionally, when an industry or enterprise becomes successful, the sole credit taker is the leader, on behalf of his enterprise. But one must not forget that, an enterprise can never work efficiently, if the leader is unconcerned and indifferent to the views and outlook of employees.

Furthermore, the most imperative issue today is, preparing young people for leadership, for they are the future of a country. But, preparing young people for leadership is not an easy task, and it requires a joint effort of school and parents. Since, a child learns most from his teachers and parents, so they must try to inculcate qualities such as, good decision making, sympathy and empathy for others, composure and a general and unbiased concern for everyone's views. Young people must take responsibilities, and accomplish them with accuracy, while putting in their efforts and endeavour. Apart from these qualities, cooperation and teamwork are the two other qualities that need to be inculcated.

Additionally, young people are well familiarized with latest problems faced by their society, and are also conversant with the factors that led to downfall of their seniors, so they can tackle a problem with new, yet, effective methods. For instance, new generation environmentalists and ecologists were able to perceive, that automobiles emitted gases which were detrimental for humans and their environment. The new generation engineers worked on this problem, and were able to create pollution free cars accoutred with technologies such as, "EURO I & EURO II". Also, they built cars that worked on LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), rather than petrol or diesel. Furthermore, they built electric cars such as, Audi E-Tron and Reva which did not emit toxic gases. In addition to this, in case of politics we need new and young generation rulers and leaders, because we can not always sustain with gerontocracy. Supporters of gerontocracy, perceive problems from an antediluvian point of view, and needless to state that, their views cannot work effectively in present scenario. But since, younger generation is well conversant with latest problems faced by their society, so they can deal with these problems effectively and easily. Albeit, senior leaders can view these latest problems, and by the virtue of their experience, they may be successful in bringing out required results, but they cannot match the celerity of younger generation to solve the same problems.

Hence, in summary, the task of training younger generation for leadership is not an easy one, but these are not asking for the sky. Younger generation must be well acquainted, with the need and value of leadership, as the future of a country or a firm lies in their hands.
