You have the opportunity to visit a foreign country for two weeks. Which country would you like to visit? Use specific reasons and details to explain your choice.
As I grew up in one of the Portuguese ex-colony, I was raised learning about the Portuguese history at school, their culture and their tasteful and delicious food. Therefore, if I had an opportunity to visit a foreign country, I would like to visit Portugal.
Portugal is well known by their navigation history. Therefore, it would be very interesting to visit their local navigation museum and better understand how famous Portuguese sailors were able to sail to open ocean using such rudimentary navigation instrument to guide them. In addition, I would be amazed to find out what kind of technique the Portuguese used to use to build such strong ships, which allow them to sail away to stormy ocean and discover so many new lands and spread their language and culture to so many places around the world.
As many countries in Europe, Portugal still keeps some of their medieval constructions and churches in a shape. It would be great to be able to get to know these historic places, most of them described in my text books, in life and be amazed with their exquisite architecture and try to guess what kind of architectural style those building belong to and how people were able to build such huge constructions at that time using such rudimentary construction technique.
Food is part of a country culture. Portuguese cuisine is considered simple but at the same time healthy, savory and tasteful. As every tourist who visit a new country, I would taste the local foods, their famous cakes and desserts and end up my meals with a sip of their well known local “Porto’s wine”.
Portuguese culture is rooted in my life. If I have an opportunity to visit a foreign country I would visit Portugal, to better understand their culture and certainly, be amazed and proud of the Portuguese navigation history. As I am an enthusiastic for food, I would surely taste their local foods and their famous local wine.
