Telecommuting or office? #1 (permalink) Mon Jun 21, 2010 10:28 am   Telecommuting or office?

Thanks for reading, checking, writing and speaking, dear forum members=) Mr.Kitos, what about this one?

Telecommuting (working for a company from home rather than in the office and communicating with the office by computer) is becoming more and more common. Discuss the advantages of telecommuting versus working in an office. Then indicate which you prefer and why?

The development of the Internet makes it possible to change our notions about traditional office jobs. Today some companies organize working places for their employees at their own homes, whereas others continue to rent an office building so that people could work together in one single place. It is quite hard to say, which of these options is better, because both of them have their advantages.

On the one hand, Telecommuting, which is working for a company at home, is beneficial for employers and employees. In this case a company does not have to pay the rent. What a business owner has to do is only buy computers and create a corporative network. Furthermore, the employees' work becomes more convenient, because they do not need to spend their time to get to the office. Moreover, working at home, a person can wear even pajamas and eat near his or hers computer during the work. I think that it makes the work better.

On the other hand, working at the office, employees are able to communicate to each other, ask advice or find more friends. When I worked at the office, I hated what I did there, but I liked those experienced and funny people, who worked with me. Some of them are my good friends now. Moreover, it is easier for the advisor to control their employees when they are working in one place. If workers are away from the office, an advisor can only evaluate performances of their jobs, but cannot see how they actually work.

Although I like to work in a team, I personally prefer to work at home, because in this situation I do not have to wear the suit case and can do what I want. I can also make my own schedule if it is not harmful for the results of my job. Finally, I can organize my working place in the garden, smoke a pipe in my own office or even organize a party during the working day.

In conclusion, the work at the office is probably more effective and it is a good opportunity to find some good friends, but I would like to have my office in my own house because I have more freedom in this case.
